On 13 February 2025, VDD detained a well-known pro-Kremlin activist in relation to the statements the person expressed in public discussion in Moscow that were drawn against Latvia’s national security.
On 4 February 2025, Moscow, Russia, a pro-Kremlin organisation "Institute of Commonwelth of Independent States" organised a public discussion under the title "Russian compatriot ethnocide in the Baltic States." Disinformation narratives in the line with Russia’s interests were expressed during the discussion and it was attended by several Latvian nationals.
VDD initiated a criminal case after the assessment of the statements voiced in the discussion pursuant to Section 811 and Section 78 of the Criminal Law for assisting Russia in acts directed against the Republic of Latvia and triggering national hatred and enmity.
Today, on 13 February 2025, VDD detained one of the participants of the public discussion – a long-standing pro-Kremlin activist. Procedural activities were carried out at the place of living of the said person.
VDD will provide additional information on the course of the investigation according to the progress of the criminal case.
VDD reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance to the law.
