
On 13 February 2025, Latvian State Security Service (VDD) detained a person in relation to video materials the person regularly published on the "TikTok" platform that express support for Russia's war crimes in Ukraine.
Within the information space monitoring, VDD established that the person had created several accounts on the video-sharing platform "TikTok" and regularly published video materials on these accounts, which openly express support for Russia's military aggression against the state and people of Ukraine. VDD’s analysis of the person’s "TikTok" accounts showed that this person purposefully and systematically disseminated Russian war propaganda narratives to an unlimited range of people.
In this regard, on 13 February 2025, VDD initiated a criminal case pursuant to Section 741 Paragraph two of the Criminal Law, i.e., for public glorification and acquittal of genocide, crimes against humanity, crimes against peace and war crimes committed using an automated data processing system.
The suspect has been applied the security measure – arrest. VDD will provide additional information on the course of the investigation according to the progress of the criminal case.
VDD reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance to the law.
