VDD issues a warning to the political party "For Stability!"

Pursuant to Section 19 Paragraph 1 Article 12 of the Law on Intelligence and Security Services, VDD has issued a warning to the political party "For Stability!" registered in Latvia.

The warning has been issued in connection with the statements made by the party’s members to the information resources used for the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus propaganda purposes, which are under the control of persons against whom financial and economic sanctions have been imposed by the EU.

Monitoring the information space within the scope of its competence, VDD has established that in their interviews to the information resources used for the propaganda purposes of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus "For Stability!" members and deputies of the 14th Saeima – Aleksejs Rosļikovs and Glorija Grevcova – have made statements that do not comply with Section 7 Paragraph 5 of the Law on Political Parties. This clause forbids a political party to provide support, including informative (propaganda) support, to persons or countries that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence or constitutional order of democratic countries.

VDD has informed "For Stability!" about the findings, as well as warned this political party that violation of the prohibitions stipulated by the Law on Political Parties is not acceptable. VDD also encouraged the party to prevent further illegal actions and warned that otherwise the service will use instruments set by the law against the party.

VDD recalls that in accordance with Section 45 Paragraph 2 of the Law on Political Parties, the termination of the activity of political parties may be initiated if the party's activity is contrary to the Constitution, laws or other regulatory enactments, if it threatens the state or public security, and if its activities are contrary to Section 7 Paragraph 4 or 5 of this Law.

VDD also stresses that the transfer of financial and economic resources to a natural or legal person, that is included in the list of persons against whom the EU has imposed sanctions for undermining the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, is subject to criminal liability.
