VDD investigates the possible supply of military-use electronic components to Russia

VDD has initiated a criminal case against representatives of a company registered in Latvia on suspicion of supplying military-use electronic components to Russia.

The criminal case was initiated on 28 November 2023 pursuant to Section 84 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Law, namely for the violation of the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia.

The information obtained by VDD in the course of the investigation shows that the Latvian company has supplied electronic components used in the production of military goods to a company in Russia for more than half a million euros.

On 4 December 2023, as part of the criminal case, VDD carried out criminal proceedings on six sites in Riga related to the Latvian company, during which VDD officers seized a large amount of documents and data carriers for an in-depth investigation.

During the criminal proceedings, VDD detained three persons related to the company. Currently, two suspects have been applied the security measure – arrest, whereas one of the detainees has been applied non-custodial security measures.

VDD will provide additional information on the course of the investigation according to the progress of the criminal case. VDD reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance to the law.
