Today, on 7 June 2024, Latvian State Security Service (VDD) took decision to start a criminal prosecution against the former deputy of the European Parliament for possible glorifying and justifying the aggressor Russia for its war crimes conducted in Ukraine.
VDD initiated the criminal case against the person on 29 September 2023 pursuant to Section 741 of the Criminal Law while assessing the person’s expressions in a number of Russian television programs loyal to Kremlin as well as social networks. In a TV program "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" broadcasted on 21 September on Russian TV channel "Rossia 1", the person expressed that Russia "does a great, sacred work in Ukraine".
VDD has put the person on a wanted list.
VDD reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance to the law.
