On 17 October 2025, Latvian State Security Service (VDD) initiated criminal case against a Latvian national who verbally attacked a Ukrainian family on train in Switzerland.
VDD initiated the criminal case after discovering a video on the Internet that captures the specific incident. Criminal case was initiated pursuant to Section 78 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Law, namely, for committing the act directed towards triggering of national and ethnic hatred and enmity against Ukrainians, if it is related to violence and threats.
According to information at VDD’s disposal, the incident occurred on 13 October 2025 on the train route from Interlaken to Spiez in Switzerland.
VDD reminds that no person shall be considered guilty until the guilt of such person has been determined in accordance with the procedures laid down in law.
