VDD has initiated criminal proceedings in connection with the installed CCTV cameras in the Freeport of Ventspils Authority

On 28 January 2020 VDD initiated criminal proceedings on the grounds of suspicions about the installation and use of covert CCTV cameras and recording devices in the premises of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority.

The criminal proceedings have been initiated pursuant to Section  237.1 Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Law for the violation of the prohibition of the circulation of equipment, devices or instruments or the components or software thereof specially created or adapted for investigatory operational measures or for disturbance thereof.

The information regarding the covertly installed CCTV cameras was provided to VDD by an employee of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority who also handed over the said cameras to VDD.

Within the criminal proceedings VDD inspected the premises of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority and seized the video recording devices as well as found documents which might be connected with the installation of the CCTV cameras and recording devices.

During the investigation VDD has interviewed several present and former employees of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority. Also interviews with the persons from the company, which might have installed the CCTV cameras, have been conducted.

Due to the ongoing investigation VDD refrains from further comments on this case.
