VDD warns residents about fraudulent phone calls

Latvian State Security Service (VDD) warns about fraudulent phone calls, in which the members of the public are being deceived that they have received a letter from VDD.

Scammers pretend to be couriers from the delivery company "Omniva" or mail carriers from "Latvijas Pasts", claiming that they have been tasked to deliver a letter from the VDD.

During the call, scammers try to obtain personal data, access to online banking, or ask to confirm identity using the "Smart-ID" app. VDD warns that the goal of scammers is to defraud victims of their financial resources.

The Service recommends residents to be cautious and not to engage in conversations when receiving suspicious phone calls. In case of doubt, residents can call over the 24/7 phone +371 6720 8964.

VDD draws attention to the fact that names of other state institutions are also used in fraudulent schemes.
