Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has asked the Prosecution Office to initiate criminal prosecution against a person for a criminal offence pursuant to Section 84 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Law, i.e., for the violation of sanctions imposed by the European Union.
The criminal case against this person was initiated by VDD on 6 April 2023. In the course of the investigation VDD has established that the said person transferred a luxury class vehicle to a person in the Russian Federation and thus violated the EU Council regulation No. 2022/428, which prohibits to sell, supply, transfer or export, directly or indirectly, luxury goods to any natural or legal person, entity or body in Russia or for use in Russia.
Along with the initiation of the criminal case against the above mentioned person, VDD has initiated a process for executing coercive measures against a company represented by the above mentioned person. Together with providing materials of the criminal case against the mentioned person to the Prosecution Office, VDD also has asked the Prosecution Office to continue the execution of the coercive measures against the company represented by the said person.
VDD recalls that no person should be considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance with law.
